| Fire Danger Can Still Remain High Even After Rain |
Wed. Feb 18th 2009
Though the area has received rain and the drought index has fallen, the Fire Danger is still high. Dead vegetation (grass and brush) along with heavy winds still creates a fire danger. Dead vegetation does not absorb moisture and remains dry. Combined with high winds a fire in dead vegetation can still easily spread out of control. High winds not only help to spread fire, but also help to dry the vegetation even further. Caution should be used when conducting outside burning even after periods of rain. Remember to use caution when burning outdoors and around dead vegetation.
